A five-storey teaching hub built around an open, column-free central atrium
Project Overview
The Teaching and Learning 01 Building gives students and staff a new hub for learning and collaboration, bringing together general teaching areas, specialist laboratories, an auditorium, incubator spaces and a central atrium across five storeys and approximately 12,000sqm.
At the heart of the building, the atrium’s long clear spans and minimal columns create an open, flexible space for the campus community to gather and connect. A concrete structural system with post-tensioned band beams and slabs supports the building’s stepped form, balancing efficiency with the architectural vision for the space.
Scope of Work
TTW delivered Civil and Structural Engineering services including:
- Structural design using a concrete system with post-tensioned band beams and slabs to support the building’s stepped form
- Close collaboration with the architect and landscape designers to address the site’s significant level changes
- Universal DDA compliance to ensure the building is accessible to everyone on campus
- An integrated design response connecting the building seamlessly with the existing campus and broader masterplan
