Preserving the story of an 1869 sandstone lighthouse on Australia’s eastern coastline

Project Overview

The Cape St George Lighthouse give the local community a tangible link to Australia’s maritime history, a Victorian-era sandstone lighthouse built in 1869 as part of the country’s early navigational aids along the eastern coastline, decommissioned in 1899 and later destroyed by the navy after being deemed a hazard.

Preserving what remains gives future generations the chance to understand and connect with this chapter of the coastline’s history.

Scope of Work

TTW is delivering Heritage Engineering services for the ruins, including:

  • Structural condition assessment and structural analysis of the extant ruins
  • Recommendations and guidelines for preservation
