Cyclone-resilient modular timber homes, built for Queensland’s most remote communities
Project Overview
This timber modular housing solution gives Queensland communities a faster path to new homes, supporting QBuild’s statewide programme to address the state’s housing supply shortage. Designed to withstand Queensland’s coastal and cyclonic conditions, the timber-framed modules will be deployed across the state, including remote locations such as the Torres Strait Islands, Thursday Island, Moreton Island, North Stradbroke Island, Horn Island and K’gari (Fraser Island), giving people in some of Queensland’s most isolated communities a place to call home, while supporting the local timber industry along the way.
Scope of Work
TTW delivered Structural Engineering services for the QBuild Timber Prototype project, including:
- Engineering and delivery of a timber modular housing solution for QBuild’s statewide programme
- A modern methods of construction (MMC) approach, streamlining design and delivery through volumetric, flat-pack and kit-of-parts systems developed in partnership with the Office of the Queensland Government Architect and industry suppliers
- Construction sequencing, resolution of details, and documentation
