Indonesia’s New Mosque, designed for a United Nation
Project Overview
Set within Indonesia’s new capital, IKN, the Nusantara National Mosque will give up to 60,000 worshippers a place to gather in faith and community. Its striking circular form, set within an artificial reservoir, symbolises national unity and religious harmony, a landmark shaped by the cultural values of the Indonesian people it’s designed to serve.
Scope of Work
TTW delivered Structural Engineering services for the mosque, including:
- Design of distinctive architectural features, including a 70-metre-diameter twisted dome and a 99-metre-high minaret crafted from a steel-frame system
- Design of the floor system using a fully post-tensioned flat slab solution, an uncommon approach in Indonesia, to accelerate construction and meet the ambitious 2024 completion target
