3.5km tunnels under Sydney Harbour, engineered to connect The Bays and the CBD

Project Overview

The Eastern Tunnel Package gives Sydney a faster, more connected way to move between the CBD and Greater Parramatta, forming part of Sydney Metro West’s new underground railway. The project delivers 3.5km of tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour, linking The Bays precinct to the Sydney CBD. It’s one of the most technically complex sections of the wider alignment, requiring precision tunnelling beneath one of Sydney’s busiest waterways to connect two key growth and employment precincts, giving communities on both sides a faster path to jobs, education and opportunity.

Scope of Work

TTW is delivering Structural, Applied Science and Construction Engineering services, including:

  • Predicted effects and building assessments across the entire project
  • Tunnel structure design, including the city end turnback tunnels
  • Sydney Water assessments for heritage brick oviform sewers and Tank Stream
  • Temporary works engineering
