A 49-storey tower rising above the heritage Firehouse Hotel

Project Overview

88 Walker Street gives North Sydney a striking new landmark, rising above the heritage Firehouse Hotel as a 49-storey mixed-use tower. The development brings together a 4-star international hotel with over 250 rooms and 12,000sqm of commercial space, with the hotel’s first eight floors dedicated to guest facilities and a full-level rooftop bar crowning the tower. Behind the striking form sits careful engineering to protect the surrounding public domain, ensuring the development sits safely alongside the neighbourhood it now calls home.

Scope of Work

TTW delivered Applied Science, Civil and Structural Engineering services including:

  • Flood investigation and modelling to determine the impacts of a large upstream catchment on the development, and the development’s impact on adjacent properties and public domain areas
  • Design of modifications to public domain levels and stormwater infrastructure, ensuring the development sits above flood levels with no adverse impacts on neighbouring properties
  • Design of the diversion of a 1500mm diameter brick stormwater pipe through the basement, including temporary diversions during construction and connection details to the existing pipe network
  • Design and documentation of public domain upgrades to meet the North Sydney Public Domain Style Manual
