La Trobe’s first new student housing since the 1970s, built entirely in timber
Project Overview
La Trobe University’s new student accommodation gives students a place to live and belong on campus. The first new build there since the 1970s, and part of the university’s ambitious plan to transform its Bundoora campus.
Built using 3,500m³ of Cross Laminated and Glulam timber, the development provides over 600 new beds and new amenities to support the full range of student life. Choosing timber over concrete also halved the building’s embodied carbon, helping the project achieve a 5 Star Green Star design and as-built rating, giving students a home that’s better for them and the planet they’ll inherit.
Scope of Work
TTW delivered Structural and Façade Engineering services including:
- Structural design across the building, Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glulam superstructure elements
- Concrete substructure packages to meet the fast-tracked procurement and construction program
- Façade review of the full design documentation, including material, details and testing
